From Hiding to Leading
My 27-Year Journey
Lacking confidence, I learned to hide my Muslim identity at work. Jumu'ah was a longer lunch break, I avoided prayer rooms when people were around, and learnt to code-shift just to fit in. Promotions passed me by.
Over time, I built a new way forward. I became a department head while openly practising Islam, creating inclusive, social events that brought teams closer.
